Coupled with diverse operational requirements—including live sports commentary, opening/closing ceremonies, and large-scale public gatherings—their sound reinforcement systems typically face two critical challenges: non-uniform sound field coverage and compromised speech intelligibility. These issues directly impede the clarity of event communication, diminish the overall audience experience, and hinder on-site management efficiency, thereby emerging as pivotal bottlenecks limiting the acoustic performance and operational quality of these venues.

Medium and large-scale sports venues typically feature a volume exceeding 100,000 cubic meters. Audience areas are distributed hierarchically, including lower stands, upper stands and VIP boxes, with the distance from the central venue to the farthest stands often surpassing 50 meters, resulting in substantial attenuation of acoustic energy. Moreover, many venues adopt open or semi-open structures, leading to significant outward sound energy dissipation, compounded by complex reflections from interior walls and ceilings. Conventional sound reinforcement systems thus present three critical shortcomings:

(1)Excessively high sound pressure levels in the near field, causing listener fatigue, while insufficient sound pressure in the far field leads to weak and distorted audio;

(2)Formation of coverage voids in upper stands, walkways and other critical zones;

(3)Sound pressure level variations across the entire venue exceeding 3 dB, which fails to meet relevant specifications and cannot guarantee a consistent and uniform auditory experience for all spectators.

2.2 Excessive Reverberation Leading to Poor Intelligibility: Dual Interference from Hard Reflective Environments and Ambient Noise

Sports venues are predominantly constructed from hard reflective materials such as concrete and steel, with a low proportion of acoustic absorption treatments. This results in an extended natural reverberation time, typically ≥ 3 seconds within the 500–1000 Hz frequency band. Excessive reverberation leads to severe speech signal masking and significant degradation in intelligibility. Concurrently, ambient noise sources including audience cheering and equipment impact noise (with peak levels exceeding 85 dB) interact with reverberant energy, further compromising speech clarity and penetration. Consequently, critical information such as official announcements, operational instructions and event commentary cannot be reliably and accurately transmitted throughout the venue, which severely impairs the overall quality and efficiency of event management.

3.1 Overcoming Uneven Sound Field Coverage: Distributed Line Array with Zoned Sound Reinforcement Architecture

Core Concept:Based on EASE acoustic simulation and modeling, a distributed sound reinforcement architecture featuring “main coverage + zone fill-in + venue enhancement” is established. Through precise directional control and optimized sound energy distribution, uniform sound pressure levels throughout the entire venue are achieved.

Specific Implementation Measures:

(1)Precise Coverage of the Main Sound Reinforcement System: Theatre Sound V12 dual 12-inch line array loudspeakers are deployed (configured to actual venue requirements). These loudspeakers feature a 110° horizontal coverage angle and 90° vertical coverage angle. Leveraging the line array coupling effect, acoustic energy is precisely directed toward the audience areas, effectively minimizing diffusion loss and ensuring sound pressure levels in upper stands and remote zones meet the required standard (≥95 dB). Prior to rigging, coverage angles are modeled and optimized via EASE software to prevent excessive sound energy concentration in the near field.
(2)Zone-based Auxiliary Fill-in to Eliminate Coverage Dead Zones: For weak coverage areas such as lower stands, VIP boxes and walkways, Theatre Voice H22 dual 12-inch three-way point-source long-throw loudspeakers are deployed.
