Sound Reinforcement System for Stadium of Hunan Vocational Institute of Safety Technology(Changsha Coal Mine Safety Technology Training Center)

1.Project Background

Hunan Vocational Institute of Safety Technology (Changsha Coal Mine Safety Technology Training Center, hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) is located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city and the capital of Hunan Province.

To the east of the institute is the National Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone; to the south are Hunan Broadcasting System and Changsha Window of the World; to the west lie the scenic Yuelu Mountain and the beautiful Xiangjiang River.Situated on Wanjiali North Road, the main transportation artery of Changsha, and the northern section of Changsha Metro Line 5, the institute is part of the core area of Changsha “Vocational Education City”.

Founded in 1984 as Changsha Coal Mine Safety Technology Training Center, the institute was co-established by the Chinese government and the International Labour Organization of the United Nations. It is one of the two training centers directly under the State Administration of Work Safety, as well as a national first-class safety production training institution and a national first-class coal mine safety training institution.

In 2000, Hunan Vocational Institute of Science and Technology was established on the basis of Changsha Coal Mine Safety Technology Training Center.In 2005, to meet the urgent demand for safety production professionals in national economic and social development, and upon the recommendation of the State Administration of Work Safety to the People’s Government of Hunan Province, Hunan Vocational Institute of Safety Technology was founded on the same basis.

In 2006, the People’s Government of Hunan Province and the State Administration of Work Safety signed a provincial-ministry co-construction agreement, establishing an operation model of “one institution, two brands, two systems, integrated management”. The institute is administered by the Hunan Provincial Department of Emergency Management and the Hunan Coal Mine Safety Supervision Bureau, representing the provincial government and the Ministry of Emergency Management respectively.It has become the first full-time public higher vocational college named “Safety” in China.

The institute covers an area of 403.4 mu, with a building area of 132,422 square meters and fixed assets of 346 million yuan.The library holds 315,500 paper books, 11,312 GB of e-books, 666 Chinese professional paper journals and 33 foreign paper journals.

The institute currently has 425 faculty members, including 107 teachers with associate senior professional titles or above and 201 “double-quality” teachers.Among the staff:

● 3 members of the National Vocational College Teaching Steering Committee

● 20 certified safety engineers and national first-class safety assessors

● 1 provincial-level professional teaching team

● 2 provincial-level academic leaders

● 30 provincial-level young core teachers and visiting scholars at all levels

2.Project Requirements

The playground consists of a standard football field and a 400meter track, equipped with a rostrum and spectator stands. It serves as the main venue for assemblies, sports competitions, and cultural performances.

According to the application characteristics of a university playground, the requirements for the sound reinforcement system function, equipment configuration and selection are as follows:

● Meet various daily sports meeting requirements, including opening ceremonies, group calisthenics, etc.

● Support largescale cultural performances, campus assemblies and other events.

● Follow the principles of multifunction, high standard and high stability.

● The stadium sound system is used frequently, so core equipment must be flexible in application.

● Support playback of various audio signals with redundant audio interfaces reserved.

● All equipment of the outdoor sound system shall be under centralized control.

● Achieve full and uniform sound coverage over the entire playground with no dead zones.

3.System Features

(1) Audio Source Design

As the playground hosts sports meetings, performances, large assemblies and other activities, the following audio sources are designed and installed:computer, intelligent music player, wireless microphones, wired microphones, CD player and other sources.

(2) Main Control Design

Processing equipment including mixing console, effector, equalizer, digital audio processor and feedback suppressor are configured to improve sound quality, generate audio effects and eliminate acoustic feedback.

(3) Loudspeaker System Design

Considering the large playground area and the user’s requirement for uniform sound field, we designed and installed VALTEC VQ Series dual 10inch line array speakers as main loudspeakers, and dual 8inch line array speakers for supplementary coverage.

Based on the playground area, the system includes:

● 2 arrays × 4 dual 10inch line array speakers

● 2 dual 18inch subwoofers as main lowfrequency reinforcement

Two sets of dual 8inch line array speakers are placed on both sides of the rostrum to cover the side stands.Two sets of dual 10inch line array speakers are arranged on the left and right sides of the stands to work with the main arrays and achieve full playground coverage.

4.Achieved Effects

● The sound reinforcement system features high speech intelligibility and can provide sufficient sound pressure for long periods.

● No obvious acoustic defects such as echo, flutter echo or sound focusing at any position in the venue.

● No obvious acoustic feedback issues in the system.

● Achieve uniform sound coverage throughout the entire audience and venue area.

● Uniform sound field distribution and consistent frequency response characteristics within the coverage area.

● The loudspeakers are arranged in a centralized layout.

● The system adopts digital control with highly integrated equipment.

● The sound system is equipped with multiple protection measures and audio output interfaces.

● The system configuration meets multifunctional requirements, including speech reinforcement for various sports events.

● Various noise indicators under normal operation are below the specified limits.

● The appearance and installation position of the loudspeakers do not affect the overall style and safety of the venue.
